1. School History
Boarding Middle School for Orphans and Helpless youths (BMSOH) was an educational institution that was established on the Thai-Burma border in 1993. A group of teachers striving to fill an educational void experienced by migrant workers children and orphans, found BMSOH. From 1993 to early 1999, the school had 4 teachers and 63 students including 15 boarding orphans, operated successfully, with Burmese border consortium's food supply, National Health and Education Committee's stationary and teachers' salaries and other essential needs from Burmese Relief centre. In late 1999, an act of arson at the hands of the military regime as well as other security issue, forced a hasty move to Mae Pa, a village further from the border area. Open society institute (OSI) supported for four years, from 1999 up to 2003, after that, John P. Hussman Foundation continued till 2006. Since then Help Without Frontiers has been supporting school basic needs, to date. Middle level classes were upgraded to high level in 2001, so the name of BMSOH was changed to BHSOH.
2. Current situation
While our school was facing the situation of nearly closure, with 250 students including 61 boarding, from Kindergarten to Posten, during 2007-2008 academic years, National cathouse commission on migration and Help Without Frontiers have supported until at the end of March, 2008. Since then, Help Without Frontiers is supporting up to now. This organization will continue their aids, also. Due to the worst situation of our country, a large number of migrant students including 70 boarders will increase more than last years.
Currently, our school is facing very crowded condition, no extra space and no play ground for the children, so we urgently need another land and buildings to overcome this horrible situation.
